Severe falciparum malaria in young children is associated with poor post-discharge outcomes: A prospective cohort study

Dr. Robert Opoka  presents a prospective cohort study in Uganda to determine post-discharge morbidity in children with different types of severe malaria.  Children with severe malaria or cerebral malaria were followed for 12 months post-discharge. The study identified high post-discharge morbidity in both groups of children and the need to provide chemoprophylaxis upon discharge for children with severe malaria.
